The BBC and AbilityNet have developed a website which explains ways to change your settings and improve your user experience.

My Web My Way website for guidance on accessibility issues (opens in new window)

Accessibility & Design of Our Website

We have designed this website in house, with an emphasis on usability - with the aim of clarity, easy navigation, predictable behaviours and user-adjustable font sizes throughout.

This is not only to help any site-impaired visitors or those with other disabilities, but we hope should benefit all users of our site.

No Frills

A friendly bunch with a no frills approach, we hope our site reflects that and have tried to use plain English with minimum use of jargon. We wanted to achieve a balance between look and functionality, so there are no unecessary annoying animations or images for images sake. As time is valuable, we anticipate that most pages should load within a few seconds on a standard 2Mb broadband connection.

Bigger Text Please!

The text size can be increased (or decreased) according to your preference or visual needs, see settings below:

Instructions for increasing font size in common web browsers
Internet Explorer 4 and above View > Text Size > Larger/Largest
Firefox, Netscape View > Text Size > Increase
Safari View > Make Text Bigger
Apple Mac (all browsers) Command +

In Windows browsers you can also generally use the zoom functionality by holding down CTRL and pressing + or -, or CTRL and mouse scroll wheel.

Alternative Methods

Whilst we may be able to communicate via the website, should it fail for any reason we can still rely on tried and tested methods such as telephone and post.

Web Standards

We have already invested significant time and effort into adopting what we believe are best practices as defined in the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines (WAG) - published by the internet governing body, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) - and will endeavour to make improvements to give our users the best possble experience and ensure we are compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

Feedback and Comments

We welcome your feedback and would always urge you to contact us if you experience any problems.
